Homes for Greater Wellington

partner for both Kāinga Ora new build projects and the Kāinga Ora retrofit programme. To date (July 2024), we’ve had the opportunity to deliver six new build properties for whānau in Lower Hutt, Wellington and have also completed more than 100 retrofit properties for whānau in the Stokes Valley, Upper and Lower Hutt, and Porirua areas in Wellington. We also retrofit properties for Kāinga Ora across Manawatū and Whanganui.

Ōtautahi Comcare Trust community housing upgrades

Switched On Building Solutions regularly partners with ComCare Trust in Christchurch to upgrade community housing. We recently upgraded the full interiors of three units in a timely manner to allow tenants to move back in quickly, after temporarily being housed in alternate accommodation. We are always looking to continuously improve. Our operations and quantity surveying team identified very early on that the original designs for this project were cost-prohibitive and this was highlighted through appropriate channels. A consultant was engaged to redesign the refurbishments within scope and budget.

While this slowed down our intended works, the longer-term benefit to the client and tenants was front of mind. Work on these units included full vinyl floor replacement, internal joinery modifications and repairs, upgraded LED lighting, plastering and painting, HVAC repairs and maintenance, wall lining repairs and replacement, garage roller door replacement, commercial cleaning and minor building units. With a fixed timeframe before tenants would move back in, this project required exacting project management to ensure works were completed efficiently and any issues were resolved quickly. Our Switched On Building Solutions team worked closely with the client and tenants where required.

Interior upgrades for our military whānau

Our team completed a number of interior upgrades and redecorations of military base homes through our partnership with Spotless Facilities Services (Downer Group). This included replacing the kitchen tops and all joinery hardware, full refurbishment of bathrooms, installation of new lighting and switches, plastering and painting throughout the properties and upgrading the plumbing for new hot water cylinders. Our project manager communicated closely with main contractor Spotless on a regular basis to ensure all works were completed to the customer’s expectations. We worked with several trusted subcontractors, as well as utilising our in-house Master trades to deliver this project fast, ready for whānau.
