Three gold and two supreme Master Painters awards for Switched On29 May 2017
Switched On took out five top awards at the New Zealand Master Painters Awards on Friday night. The Christchurch and Wellington-based renovations and alterations company received three gold awards for their commercial painting work, as well as two supreme awards for best small commercial interior and best large commercial exterior.
Managing Director Chris Hughes says that the awards are an outstanding achievement for the company, which only entered for the first time this year.
“Our tradesmen are all Master Painters, Builders and Electricians but this is the first year we have entered our work to be judged. We are so proud of our team for receiving top awards for both the projects we entered – we knew the quality was very high, but these awards prove our work is some of the best in NZ!”
Chris Hughes – Managing Director and partner Camille Strowger, Natasha Rowe – Admin Manager and Kieran Taite – Painting Manager celebrate at the Master Painters Awards.
The prestigious awards programme sets the benchmark for painting and wallpapering in New Zealand. Switched On entered their new head office Hughes House in Belfast and a commercial fit-out project for Vintage Rose, a women’s boutique fashion store in Riccarton Mall.
“Both these projects were extremely complex and included many decorative details. They are great examples of our team’s attention to detail. To received gold and supreme awards for both shows that our Master Painters really are at the top of the game.”
Hughes House received Gold for both its interior and exterior paint work, also taking out the ‘New Exterior – Large’ category supreme award. The team were tasked with not only painting the entire building, but also a huge variety of decorative features to meet the detailed specifications from the architect and interior designer.
Pre-cast concrete panels were coated in a variety of colours to stand out on the exterior of the building. Inside, the team’s work included painting bright-blue and grey battens for the feature walls and screens in the office and social spaces. They also sealed the timber features, exposed ceilings and the polished-concrete warehouse floor.
The Vintage Rose project received gold status and also won the ‘New Interior – Small’ category. This project was a challenge because of its very tight time-frame and many decorative features, including 10 different types of wallpaper in the store.
These awards come just two weeks after Switched On received a Bronze Award from the Master Builders Association for the company’s first-ever commercial building project.
