A newly renovated cabin for the community5 October 2018
At Switched On, we are very proud to be part of the new development of a Housing New Zealand (HNZ) community housing complex on Riccarton Road, called The Cabin.
Based on the design of an athletics village, the complex dates back to 1956 and is similar to many other community complexes around New Zealand. Since then, it has become a genuine community facility that provides a venue to bring the local community together.
We are always on the lookout for ways that we can truly contribute to our local community and neighborhoods.
One of our team, Greg McKeeman saw such an opportunity at an HNZ property in Riccarton Road. Working with HNZ, we upgraded the shared community room and outdoor space, donating materials and labour to refurbish the area.
With the work now completed, the space has been re-named The Cabin to reflect the warm, friendly accessible space for the local community to come together.
The Oak Community Trust is one of the first organisations to help utilise this space, serving food to the tenants on a regular basis.
Alongside Switched On Manager Regional Maintenance Stephen Wilson, the team at Switched On was delighted to be part of the opening ceremony on Thursday 20 October, with HNZ.
We look forward to seeing more organisations make the most of the renovated venue in the future.
